We're not shy to tell you how much the book will cost to produce. We're happy to show you our numbers, especially since 50% of the net profits will go to support the mission of the PCTA!
The images on the left paint the whole story!
The books are just US$9.99 (Kindle, US$3.99). We figure these are comfortable prices that most everyone can afford.
Although the cost of distribution through Amazon may seem high, we feel it is well worth the price since they have such gianormous reach. They are, after all, the world's largest something-or-another.
The other major expense is the actual printing of the book. Of course, how can you get a book published without a book printer. Oh, but we will be offering a Kindle version. We listed that break down as well.
50% of the balance (or net profit) will be donated to the Pacific Crest Trail Association. And the remaining 50% (about $1.45) will stay with What's Cooking on the PCT to pay for things like website and email hosting, plus future campaigns or promotions to make the public aware of the book once it's ready.
How about the employees at What's Cooking on the PCT - what huge salaries do they collect?
Well, funny thing - right now everything is voluntary. All the work we're doing - everything from answering emails to cataloging recipes to generating Facebook posts and email updates (in addition to keeping this website looking pretty) - is all volunteered time. Our pay will be in the satisfaction of knowing that we can keep publishing this book year after year, and that it gives back to the same trail we all fell in love with.
The Pacific Crest Trail Association is a not-for-proft organization whose mission is to protect, preserve and promote the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail as an internationally significant resource for the enjoyment of hikers and equestrians, and for the value that wild and scenic lands provide to all people.
What's Cooking on the PCT supports the mission of the Pacific Crest Trail Association.
